Authors: B. Fernández, M. Toro, A. Caballero
Issue: 94A-3 (334-339)
Topic: Animal Production
Keywords: genetic drift, selection, inbreeding conservation
Summary:

Two methods for controlling in breeding in selection programmes have been compared: minimisation of contributions from parents to offspring and minimisation of average coancestry of selected individuals. In selected populations the second method is more efficient than the first one even if individuals in the base population are unrelated. It is also concluded that the methods are effective when linkage is tight, unless this is complete.
