Summary:

The influence of husbandry factors on the quality of fresh mushrooms has been reviewed by Carey and O'Connor (1991). In this article the most recent contributions complete the information on this subject.
Calcium chloride added to the irrigation water enhances mushroom colour by increasing vacuolar membrane integrity.
Computer environmental control (temperature, relative humidity and carbon dioxide) can give uniform crop and enhances mushroom quality.
Firmess and dry matter content of mushrooms are important characteristics for the mechanical harvest and depend of some husbandry factors (depth of casing and compost, salinity etc).
