Summary:

Links between goat herds of the AMURVAL association must be established and herds have to be inlaid into the national breeding program managed by INIA in collaboration with the ACRIMUR association. Artificial insemination is a necessary tool for testing candidate males by their progeny, and reference sires allow the connectedness between herds. Thirteen sires were working during years 2004 and 2005. In the first insemination season, 8 herds were considered as connected, with 10 or more daughters on the herd-book sired by three or more different males. Rational distribution of sires among herds and between seasons will improve accuracy of estimated breeding values of males and the across-herd comparisons.
