Topic: Animal Production
Keywords: rabbit, crossbreeding, growth, selected lines
Summary:

Preliminary results from a crossbreeding experiment between three maternal lines (11, 33 and 55) and two sire lines (22 and 44) selected in Spain are shown. Studied traits were weight at weaning (32 d) and at 60 days, daily gain, feed conversion and daily feed intake, adjusting these traits by weight al weaning. The lightest animals at 60 days (a liveweight lower than 1736 g) and the lowest daily feed intake (lower than 102 g/d) were the offspring of lines 11 and 55 and their crosses. The heaviest individuals at 60 days (more than 1954 g) belonged to descendants from lines 44 and 22 and their crosses, and to the type 34. The highest daily intakes were observed in to the groups with the highest daily gain and also in types 34, 45 and 54. Types 14 and 45, and lines 11 and 55 and their crosses showed the highest values of feed conversion. The best values of feed efficiency belonged to types mothered by line 22, and types 24 and 44.
